Preparing for my presentation at the MCT Summit, let’s review some of the tools that allow for an enhanced presentation. One of those that I’ve been using for well over a decade is a tool called ZoomIt. ZoomIt is a tool that allows presenters to mark up their screen zoom as well as annotate in live real time. It’s a simple install that allows you to essentially utilize hotkeys on your keyboard. Whether you’re conducting a business meeting, teaching a class, or showcasing a new software application. ZoomIt can enhance your presentation and make your points clearer and more engaging.

What is ZoomIt?

ZoomIt is a lightweight application that runs in the system tray, ready to be activated with customizable hotkeys. It allows users to zoom in on specific areas of the screen, annotate with drawings or text, and even record the screen. This makes it particularly useful for highlighting important details during presentations or creating instructional videos.

Key Features

Screen Zooming
ZoomIt’s primary feature is its ability to zoom in on any part of the screen. By pressing the default hotkey (Ctrl + 1), you can zoom in and out using the mouse scroll wheel or arrow keys. This feature is perfect for focusing on specific details, whether you’re explaining a complex diagram or showcasing a particular feature of a software application.

Annotation Tools
Once zoomed in, ZoomIt allows you to draw directly on the screen. You can use various tools to draw lines, arrows, rectangles, and ellipses, or simply freehand draw. You can also type text annotations to provide additional context. The drawing tools are customizable, letting you change the color and thickness of the lines to suit your needs. . Some of my favorite items are to change the font color by using different colors such as B for blue. Y for yellow or G for green. You can also use different shortcuts to draw arrows using the variety of different tools with the control tab, shift keys, etc.

LiveZoom and LiveDraw
ZoomIt’s LiveZoom feature lets you zoom in while keeping the screen interactive, allowing you to demonstrate software or navigate websites without losing the zoomed-in view. LiveDraw enables drawing and annotation on top of live windows and the desktop, making it easier to guide your audience through a process step-by-step.

Screen Recording
For those who need to create instructional videos or record their presentations, ZoomIt includes a screen recording feature. You can start and stop recordings with a simple hotkey, and the recordings are saved as MP4 files. This feature is especially useful for creating tutorials or documenting.

    How to Use ZoomIt
Using ZoomIt is straightforward. After downloading and installing the application, ZommIt presents a configuration window where you can set up your preferred hotkeys and customize the drawing tools. Once configured, ZoomIt runs in the background and can be activated at any time with your chosen hotkeys.
