Enhancing your reactions | Adding custom emojis to Teams

Users can now upload and use custom emojis in Teams chats and channels to personalize messaging. In this post, we will review the process to add your own custom emojis to your organization. Admins can control who can create and delete custom emojis through the Teams Admin Center through messaging settings.

Initially, the biggest benefit I am able to identify is that organizations can create and utilize some key icons or symbols for internal projects, feedback and general adoption. It is fun to use the company logo when someone is celebrating a huge win or collecting feedback, or it is important to use an icon that might reference a country flag for the upcoming Olympics.

Access custom emojis

Open a Teams chat or channel and in the chat box, select the Emoji icon.

At the top of the window, select the Emoji menu option.

In the bottom right area of the window, select the Emoji icon with the dotted line circle around it (Dotted line around the emoji). This will bring up the Custom section of the emojis library. Select the one you want from these options to insert it into your chat.

If you have permissions to add emojis for your organization, click Add emoji in the Emojis library (shown above. A File Explorer window will open to allow you to select a new image or GIF file to use as a custom emoji. (You can upload a JPEG, PNG, or GIF file; smaller images with square dimensions work best. NOTE: Custom emojis and reactions cannot currently be uploaded on Android.)

      • To assign a name to your new custom emoji, type it in the Name box and select Add emoji.
      • Your emoji is ready to be used!
